Career:

Trained as a carpenter and had a building business in Crompton Row, Birr. Started career working in a distillery (making Irish Whiskey). Was mainly dependent on confectionery business founded by his wife.

Other information:

[From grandson Benjamin]: Took pride in appearance and was generally well turned out. A gourmet. Would stay in Galway for 3-4 days each year just to eat fresh mackerel when it was in (remembered by his descendants because Jack did not drive and would have to get his son to take him).
Dying words were than grandson Benjamin (aged 8) was to have his wristwatch.
