Henrey is found here in his languorous Soixante-Neuf mode. His iambs are (occasionally) pentametric and his couplets are (vaguely) rhymed so as to foist upon the unwary reader the illusion that what they are experiencing is ‘poetry’. Clearly, one should not allow oneself to be deceived by these clever devices. As Fulmen K. Estrogen of Red Neck University, Anchorage once wrote:
‘Coloring one’s toenails alternately pink and purple; listening to "Barry Manilow’s Greatest Hits" on CD; drinking a Tequila Sunrise while riding a roller-coaster; voting for a "Green" candidate in an election — these are all ways of inducing the sensation of mild nausea which is essential for the proper appreciation of Lord Henrey’s poetry, especially that which is written in the Soixante-Neuf mode. Just remember that it could have been a lot worse.’ (CH)
